Portland, Oregon (Ory-Gun!)

Just a quick entry…

Arrived in Portland yesterday and toured a bit. Had a great meal and a good night’s sleep. Awoke and check out Portland AA’s site and saw a meeting was starting at 7:00 a.m., got ready and had the hotel call me a cab.

When the cabbie picked me up,we chatted friendly and I mentioned I was going to a meeting, an AA meeting. He said he was in recovery, too! We had a great conversation about ourselves, our recovery, and local AA. When he started slowing, looking for te address I gave him, we realized he’d misundestood and taken me to NE instead of SE. No problem. He killed the meter and instead of 5 minutes to chat with each other, we got 15. It was perfect, the meeting before the meeting! I paid and tipped him and wished him well, then went into the meeting. It was about 7:15 and I took a seat and got my bearings. I grabbed some coffee and listened to the discssion about the 10th Tradition. In this meeting, the chair called on people to share. As the meeting approached the end, I raised my hand because I wanted to be a part of and introduce myself. (I also asked for a ride back to the hotel!) The fellow whogave the the ride was kind and a good conversationalist, too. What a great way to start my day!
